Sad Ending to Year 2008

As most of you know we had to say our good-byes to Mallie on Tuesday because she had liver cancer. By far this was the hardest thing Don and I have ever had to do. Mallie was considered out first born child. If you invited Don and I over you always knew Mallie was coming with us. We even stopped asking if she could come and just assumed you knew she was coming. Mallie was such an amazing Dog with a great heart. We of course, are asking why? Why Mallie and why so fast?

On a happy note, we did have 9 WONDERFUL years with Mallie. Don and I got Mallie just 6 months after we started dating. She was a great puppy and like with Dax I stayed at home with her the first couple of months. I also talked my boss at the time to let me bring her to work. He agreed and let Mallie come to work with for 3 months! This is where her love for fetching started. I always forgot to bring her a ball to work and we would play fetch with rocks. I know, not good for the teeth but she would get so excited when you said "Go find a rock!"

Mallie was an excellent hunter and Don and her dove and duck hunted together for many hours. They went on many trips together and have great memories. It was heartbreaking when she became blind about 2 years ago but it did not seem to bother Mallie at all. She still could out fetch any other dog. Your arm would fall off before she got tired.

We love you baby girl and will certainly miss you. Thanks for the 9 years we had with you.
